ABDURAGMAN ADAMS Synoptic Biography 2011
Qualifications: B Dram (US), B Dram Honours (US, cum laude), Currently completing: M Dram (US)
He is actively interested and involved in a wide range of aspects of the Performing Arts: as an Actor, Writer, Director, Producer, Lecturer, Workshop Facilitator, and Performing Arts Consultant and Conceptualiser, amongst others. Although these are very varied performance arts disciplines, they all serve and advocate his most basic and passionate belief in "Arts for Social Change".
Internationally he teamed up with Theatrefront Canada (2006/7) as a co-writer and actor in a production, The Cape Town Project, performed both in South Africa as well as Canada. As an actor, his first love remains the theatre, evident in his roles in popular plays like Die Joseph en Mary Affair (of which he was also co-conceptualiser and advisory writer) and Angels Everywhere (of which he was the main concept designer and headwriter). But he comfortably crosses over to the film and tv screen, as seen in productions like Heartlines(2007), Soutmansland (2000) and Known Gods (2007/8). As a screenwriter he was co-conceptualiser of and writer on the popular etv-sitcom, SOS, writer on Interrogation Room, and his most recently written script is the currently running stage production, Kap'an (of which he is also the director). The subjects he has lectured in include Acting, Voice Training, Scriptwriting, Puppetry and Cabaret at acclaimed training institutions such as the University of Stellenbosch, New Africa Theatre Academy, Northlink College and Cape University of Technology. He was also the founder and artistic director of the "Saturday Varsity", his own theatre development project. As a drama student at the US, he was awarded with "Best Actor in a Leading Role" for 2 consecutive years (1997&98), as well as a nomination for a Fleur du Cap Award for the "Most Promising Student"(1999). Most recently (2010) he was nominated by the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport for his Contribution to the Performing Arts. After 2 very successful test festivals as co-director, he is now officially the Festival Director of the "Proe-Bietjie-Kunstefees" in Heidelberg, Cape.
ABDURAGMAN ADAMS Sinoptiese Biografie 2011
Kwalifikasies: B Dram (US), Honneurs B Dram (US, cum laude), Tans besig met M Dram (US)
