Postgraduate Conferences
As part of the postgraduate training in this Department students are required to present a short paper to staff and other postgraduate students for discussion. This presentation takes the form of a short 'conference' paper on an aspect of your research interests, and it is usually scheduled for September. One day is set aside for a series of presentations by Honours and Masters students - 15 minutes for a paper (i.e. about 6 double-spaced typed pages), with time afterwards for discussion.
Students may select any aspect of work covered or to be covered for their paper. Honours students could present an outline of their research for an essay which they have completed or which they are preparing, while Masters students could give a provisional outline of their mini-thesis topic or a more general introduction to the field they wish to explore. The general aim of the conference is to encourage students to present their ideas to their peers as well as to build up your confidence in familiar, supportive and sympathetic company.
