Industrial Psychology
Industrial
Psychology focuses on the optimal development and utilisation of human
resources in the work environment. The Department - the first of its
kind in South Africa - has developed a tradition of academic excellence
and strives to present top quality graduates to all sectors of the
South African economy. The Department would like to see its graduates
addressing the prevailing business-related people management issues in
such a way that they will earn the trust, respect and appreciation of
top management.
The
BComm (Psych) and BCommHons (Psych) programmes comply with the
requirements of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
The postgraduate programmes in Human Resource Management comply with
the regulations of the South African Board of Personnel Practice
(SABPP).
Honours,
Master's and Doctoral studies can follow on these undergraduate
programmes: BComm (Human Resource Management), BComm (Psych), and BA
(Human Resource Management). The first two programmes resort under the
Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences and the third resorts under
the Faculty of Arts. All three programmes lead to registration in
various categories with the SABPP and/or the HPCSA after postgraduate
studies and approved practical work (internship).
The
Honours and Master's programmes in Human Resource Management are
presented full-time and part-time in English. Students on the part-time
programme visit the Stellenbosch Campus for 5 weeks a year (over 2
years). The postgraduate programme in Industrial Psychology (BCommHons
(Psych)) is presented full-time only.
Our
lecturers are scientists with wide-ranging practical experience. They
are recognised by the SABPP and the HPCSA, and are registered in a
variety of categories.
Two further programmes in HIV/AIDS management are offered by a sub-division centre of the department. Go to Africa Centre for HIV/AIDS.
