Logistics
The
Department, founded in 1960, is the oldest tertiary academic department
in South Africa to offer tuition in logistics and transport. The
following majors can be taken up to the PhD level: logistics, logistics
management, operations research and transport economics.
The Department offers the following postgraduate programmes:
- BLogHons, MLog and PhD in Logistics
- BCommHons, MComm and PhD in Logistics Management or in Transport Economics or in Operations Research
- BPhil, MPhil and PhD in Transport and Logistics Studies
- BPhil, MPhil and PhD in Maritime Studies
The
BPhil, a one-year programme, is equivalent to an honours programme and
can be read full-time or part-time. The admission requirement is a
bachelor's degree (no previous qualification in transport or logistics
is required). The MPhil can be read as a one-year programme after a
BPhil, or as a two-year programme following directly on from a
bachelor's degree.
The
Department's research has a clear international orientation. It has
student and teacher exchange agreements with several European
universities. Apart from programmes for degree purposes, the Department
affords exchange students and other eligible candidates the opportunity
to register as special students, taking separate postgraduate modules
of their choice for non-degree purposes or for recognition at their
home universities.
