Master's Degrees

The Faculty offers a Master's programme in engineering that leads to the qualification Master of Engineering (MEng) in the following fields: Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Engineering Management, Extractive Metallurgical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronic Engineering.

 

  • Master of Engineering (MEng) - coursework:  The MEng (coursework) programme consists of 180 credits and succeeds the BEng, PDE, BScHon or BEngSci. It is a lectured programme compiled from an assignment (maximum 60 credits) and a number of prescribed modules (minimum 120 credits) according to each department's requirements.


  • Master of Science in Engineering (MEng) - research:  The MEng (research) programme consists of 180 credits and is an in-depth study that succeeds the BEng, BScHons, BEngSci or PDE. It is a research Master's degree with a thesis (minimum 90 credits) as requirement for graduation. Students may be required to complete a number of supplementary modules that are prescribed as necessary, according to the nature of their thesis. Depending on the department concerned, these obligatory modules may contribute from 0 up to 80 credits of the 180 credits required. In certain departments, a thesis alone is accepted.
