The Faculty of Health Sciences will be hosting this annual event on Wednesday and Thursday 15 and 16 August 2012, and it promises to be an exciting programme and will serve as a showcase for the latest research by under- and postgraduate students and researchers of Tygerberg Campus.
At the Tygerberg Academic Campus there are approximately 2500 under- and postgraduate medical students, 700 Medical doctors including 150 specialists, and a number of allied health professionals, in addition to other hospital and University staff. The campus and Tygerberg hospital complex has a staff component of about 7000 individuals and the hospital has a similar number of patients per day. The Annual Academic Day has increased exposure in the local press and this will increase public awareness and participation.
The basic format for the Annual Academic Day is as follows:
Wednesday 15 August 2012
- Various parallel sessions of different interest groups in separate lecture rooms of the Teaching block.
- The best oral and poster presentations will be selected and announced at the end of each parallel session on Wednesday. A short session will also take place on the Thursday main program day during which the respective session winners will be announced.
Thursday 16 August 2012
- Additional sessions will be presented during the morning (e.g. Infectious Diseases, Health Education and Interdisciplinary Health )
- The usual State-of-the-Art lectures (including the AJ Brink State-of-the-Art Presentation) by experts from various interest groups will be presented during the afternoon session
- Winners of the individual sessions on Wednesday will be announced.
- Guest Speaker for 2012 to be confirmed
Exhibitions:
It is essential that practitioners be kept up to date on available products and services of the Pharmaceutical Industry and other medical related companies, therefore relevant companies will be exhibiting their products in the hallway to the lecture rooms for the duration of the two days.
