Division of General Internal Medicine
This is the biggest division in the Department of Medicine attached to the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the Stellenbosch University and Tygerberg Hospital. With respect to clinical services our activities are divided into emergency, in-patient (this includes high care) and out-patient services. With respect to teaching most of the undergraduate and postgraduate (registrar) teaching takes place in this division.
We are also engaged in out-reach activities to the Elsies River CHC.

Other personnel:
This Unit is comprised of a few general physicians as well as some physicians from the other divisions such as rheumatology,infectious diseases,gastro-enterology and geriatrics.
Consultants:
The division is organised into 4 firms - the Monday,Tuesday,Wednesday and Thursday firms.
Each firm is divided into 2 halves with dedicated registrar and intern cover. There is also a small team of registrars covering for relief and assisting with intakes in the emergency unit(ward F1).
