Clinical Biochemistry is concerned with changes in the composition of blood and other body fluids associated with the diagnosis of disease and monitoring of therapy.
It has a long history dating back more than 2000 years, with Chinese and Egyptian physicians reporting changes in urine in certain diseases.
Today, clinical biochemists, scientists, medical graduates and technologists are all involved in providing the clinical biochemistry service in hospitals. This involves carrying out routine and specialist analysis, developing and implementing new techniques, liaising with clinical staff, having an input in patient care and participating in teaching and research activities.
