Goals and Objectives

GOAL 1:

To support the National Department of Health (NDOH) to achieve the HIV & AIDS and STI Strategic Plan for South Africa 2007-2011 targets as specialists in prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission (PMTCT), paediatrics and psychosocial programming.

Objectives:
1.1: Scale up coverage and improve quality of PMTCT to reduce MTCT to less than 5% 1.2: Determine HIV status of children as early as possible.
1.3: Scale up coverage of the comprehensive care and treatment package of services that includes wellness care and ART to HIV affected, infected and exposed children.
1.4: Ensure effective management of TB/HIV co-infection.
1.5: Strengthen the health system and remove barriers to access to provide comprehensive care, treatment and support services.
1.6: Support the implementation of functional Monitoring & Evaluation systems

GOAL 2:

To become a leading centre for innovative capacity building to achieve quality family HIV prevention and care.

Objectives:
2.1: To develop and operationalise a standard model of quarterly monitoring & evaluation assessment which informs the delivery of quality, comprehensive HIV Counseling and Testing, PMTCT and paediatric antiretroviral services.
2.2: To bridge the healthcare workers (HCW) knowledge gap in PMTCT, paediatric and psychosocial HIV care using a needs-based approach.
2.3: To translate HCW skills into the provision of quality prevention, care and treatment services through mentorship and supportive supervision.
2.4: To optimise existing human and physical resources by establishing local learning centres of excellence.
2.5: To continue professional development for S2S staff to achieve excellence and innovation.
2.6: To strengthen HCW leadership and motivation through performance and capacity enhancement activities.
2.7: To engage strategic collaborations that advance organisational expertise.

GOAL 3:

To advance HIV health systems policy and implementation through evidence-based strategies relevant to developing contexts.

Objectives:
3.1: To conduct operational research in support of the implementation of the NSP.
3.2: To advance relationships with strategic stakeholders in order to influence policy and practice.
